(1) Tell me more about China?
China, a land of beauty and fascination, tempts adventurous travelers all over the world. It is a massive country, covering 6,000,000 square miles and spanning 60 longitudinal degrees. It has an infinite variety of people, enchanting natural landscape, brilliant history and culture and fascinating destinations that a visitor tends to be as bewildered as bewitched. (2) How long is the Chinese mandarin course?
You can either take a short term Chinese language course any where from four weeks to six months or commit for a long term course for a year or more. The courses are tailored to your language level and the length of time you have available.

(3) Are their paid jobs available for students in Yantai?
The university administration office will help you to find the part-time paid positions in teaching English as a foreign language to Chinese students. The opportunity of getting a paid part-time position in Chinese schools is very high and frequently available.

(4) Can I complete a degree in other subjects?
Yes you can also study towards a Bachelors of Arts or Science degree in the following disciplines/subjects which are all taught in Chinese mandarin language: Chinese Language & Literature (BA), Law (BA), Business Administration (BA), International Economy & Trade (BA), Artistry & Designing (BA), Mathematics & Applied Mathematics (BS), Information & Computing (BS), Applied Physics (BS), Electronic Information & Technology (BS) Computer Science & Technology (BS), Civil Engineering (BS), Architecture (BS), Chemical Engineering & Technology (BS) Biology (BS), Biological Engineering (BS), Applied Chemistry (BS), Mechanical Designing & Automation (BS).

(5) What happens once I apply?
Upon receipt of the application form we will contact our office in China to assess your suitability for a position. If you are successful we will then email you a letter of acceptance. Once the deposit is paid a Letter of Admission will be sent by email to you from the university. You will need to bring the following documents with you to China:

Refunds are paid in accordance with our legal terms of service.

(7) Tell me more about the accommodation?
All international students will live in the dormitory building on campus. You can choose to stay alone or share the room with another international student. The size of each room is about 20 square meters, with two beds, TV, bathroom, fan, phone, chair, table, book shelves and cupboard.

(8) What other services are available?
Water, electricity and heating are provided free of charge. Laundry facilities are available and internet facilities are provided at a cost of about RMB2.00 - per hour on campus by internet cafe. Library service is provided free of charge with about RMB200 deposit for borrowing books, and such a deposit is totally refundable when you check out and no damage or loss of the borrowed books is found.

(9) Will I be studying with students at my level?
All international students will be divided into different classes according to their actual Chinese level. The classes will be classified into beginning, elementary, medium and advanced levels. Students can choose their own class categories at their own discretion within 2 weeks after class is open.

(10) Do I have to be from New Zealand?
No, you can apply from any country in the world.

(11) Do you provide any financial support?
We unfortunately are not in a position to offer any financial support. You may want to consider enrolling in a later course to allow enough time to save the funds required.

(12) What immunizations/vaccines will I need?
We advise that you consult your doctor about this.

(13) When do I need to arrive in Yantai?
Successful applicants are required to arrive a few days before the start of each semester in order to recover from jetlag and prepare for studying.

(14) Are the fees and expenses tax deductible?
No, we are only registered as an organization in New Zealand.

(15) Do I need travel insurance?
You need to take out travel insurance which also includes medical or health insurance as part of the deal.

(16) Who organizes my flights?
You do. Once you have paid your application fee, we will send you the link to our 20 page program guide which includes links to discount travel sites.

(17) Will I be met at Yantai airport?
Yes, you will be met at the Yantai airport by Jack Liu, the China program manager. He will take you to the university to introduce you to the staff and get settled in.

(18) Who organizes my visa for my time studying in China?
Initially you will need to get a tourist visa before you leave for China. The university will then sponsor all students to transfer their tourist visa into a student visa after arrival at the campus. The fees of visa transfer and residence permit will be covered by international students themselves. The costs for this are around U$ 50.00 per year

International students do not need to have one round-trip air-ticket with a confirmed date to match within the 30-day tourist validity. The Chinese airlines and customs authority does not require the ticket to have one confirmed return date to match within 30-day tourist visa validity. The ticket may be booked for one-way, one-year or half the year subject to the final confirmation of the departure date by end of each semester or year. If a volunteer must have one confirmed return date required by their travel agent , then they may book it with a confirmed return date around the end of the semester or year, but not within 30-day tourist validity.
